90 per cent of the population is involved in the agricultural sector which represents the largest employer in the Burundian economy. However, it is the tertiary sector which contributes more to GDP. In its role as a hub, Bujumbura, the capital, stimulates the growth of big and small business.

Secondary sector: 19.7 per cent
Tertiary sector: 41.3 per cent
Taxes: 8.4 per cent
Furthermore, in terms of business and investment environment, the Government of Burundi has undertaken bold reforms that led to improving its Doing Business ranking. At the Stop shop business creation, it is possible to register a company in less than two hours. According to the Doing Business Report 2015, Burundi has been ranked 18th on Registering Business.
