Transportation business requires registration at the Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR) and / or IPA’s One-stop shop. Registration gives you two very important documents for the business:
-Trade Registry Certificate;
- Tax Identification Number.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
1.Motorcycle taxi
- Vehicle Registration card (Pink Card)
-An authorization of registration and clearance certificate (both documents are issued by the General Commissariat of the Judicial Police) for 75 000 BIF.
-Tax sticker
- A pay receipt of 40 000 BIF issued by Burundi Revenue Authority (OBR) for the payment of the tax sticker.
-Insurance Card,
-Receipt for payment of Lumpsum tax,
- Technical inspection certificate,
Documents to be submitted to the government transport company (OTRACO) for the technical inspection are: the pink card, the insurance card, a pay receipt issued by OBR for payment of technical inspection fees (2 000 BIF) with an additional lumpsum payment of 3 250 BIF.
-Municipal tax:
Documents to be submitted to the City Council are: the pink card and a pay receipt issued by the OBR for the municipal tax (BIF 2 000).
-Transport authorization:
The documents required (at OTRACO) are: the pink card, the technical inspection, the insurance card, a Trade Registry Certificate, 1 passport photograph, payment receipt of 2 000 BIF.
2. Taxi (cab)
- Pink card:
The documents required by the OBR (Vehicle Registration Department) are: a registration authorization issued by the General Commissariat of the Judicial Police, clearance certificate issued by OBR. The total cost to process the pink card is 140 000 BIF.
- Tax sticker:
The documents required: submit to the OBR the pink card and a receipt issued by OBR for payment of 40 000 BIF.
- Insurance: subscribe to an insurance regime
- Technical inspection:
The documents to be submitted to OTRACO for the technical inspection are: the pink card, the insurance card and an OBR receipt for payment of 20 000 BIF and an additional lumpsum of 6 766 BIF.
- Lumpsum tax:
The documents required are: the pink card and the TIN.
Registration to the lump sum tax for the first time is free of charge.
- Municipality tax:
The documents required at the City Hall are the pink card of the vehicle and an OBR receipt as a proof of the municipal tax payment of 4 500 BIF.
- Transport authorization:
The pink card, the technical inspection certificate, the insurance card, the Trade Registry Certificate, 1 passport photo, and a sum of 2 000 BIF are the required documents that have to be submitted to OTRACO.
4. Bus.
Documents requirement are the same as for taxi operators. The lumpsum tax is not required for bus transportation.
Note: OTHER REQUIREMENTS.
According to the law, public transport vehicles must be painted by a distinctive colour.
The motorcycle taxis are painted in yellow colour and show the initials of the city district area where they are allowed to operate.
Taxi and buses are blue, white and red painted for those assigned to operate within Bujumbura municipality while they are yellow and white painted the ones assigned to the countryside transportation.
